 Robert James Lee Hawke

Robert James Lee Hawke was born on 2 Dec. 1929 in South Australia,He earned his bachelor of law degree and bachelor of arts in economics from the University of Western Australia and was an honorary fellow at University College, having won a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford in 1953.

Between 1958 and 1969 he was research officer and advocate for the Australian Council of Trade Unions (A.C.T.U.).

Between 1970 and 1980,he served as the President of Australian Council of Trade Unions as well as the Member of Reserve Bank Board、Member of Australian Council for Union Training、Member of Australian Population and Immigration Council and Member of Australian Refugee Advisory Council.

In 1980,he was elected as a Labor member of the House of Representatives for the Melbourne constituency of Wills.
From 17 September 1980 to 3 February 1983,he was the Member of Opposition Shadow Ministry and Spokesman on Industrial Relations,Employment and Youth Affairs.After becoming prime minister in 1983, he led the Labor Party government to reelection four times through 1990.

From 3 February 1983 to 19 December 1991,he became Leader of the Federal Parliamentary Australian Labor Party. In 1989,on his visit of Korean,he initiated to establish the organization of APEC.
